Wheelman Outback: Old Vs. New

Old and New Models

The 2007/2008 Wheelman Outback (G-Wheel) model offers many new and improved features I am very excited about. I own the 2006 model and have had several issues with it, all of which seem to be fixed on the new one.

Old Model FrameLet’s start out with the biggest improvement: a solid metal frame attachment for the rear wheel. The old model had it’s rear wheel attached only by the fiberglass side panels which means that as the panels crack, the wheel comes out of alignment and the body needs to be replaced. The new model extends the metal frame underneath the engine all the way back to the rollers on the back wheel giving it a more solid feel and less chance for damage. This also allows the rider to use the vehicle with the side panels off (not that I can see why you would want to do this!).
Metal Frame
The second change is in the material used for the side panels. Instead of fiberglass they have switched to the same kind of plastic which is used on ATV recreational vehicles. This seems to be more resilient and also cleaner looking than the fiberglass (No rough edges).

Wheel Alignment AdjusterOn the back wheel there is an alignment adjuster added allowing you to adjust the general alignment of the rear wheel. The chain is automatically tensioned using a spring loaded arm with a ball bearing on it.

The exhaust pipes have been extended so that instead of blowing exhaust into the metal frame, they blow more out the sides keeping the frame cleaner and reducing the amount of maintenance needed on your vehicle.Exhaust New Model

The stabilizer bar that used to run between the rear wheel fiberglass panels to the front wheel now starts at the engine and is attached using metal rather than the fiberglass which cracks easily in weather changes.

Finally the throttle, brake, and switch wires have been encased in a rubber tube for added protection. On the old model only the switch wires were encased and the throttle and brake cables were run on the outside attached with zip ties.

All in all there have been some pretty significant improvements making much less maintenance for the end user!
